We found you by the side of the road. Or perhaps you were looking for us, and only then did you find us. You were lost. You had lost everything. But now you are here. On Hyenalaan.

In the white villa, four creatures are ready, day and night, to offer every form of care and shelter. A place to meet. A refuge. A warm place where everyone feels accepted.

De Hyenalaan is a plea for us to reflect on care and on how we care for one another. On how we organise care as a society, but also as a friend, a classmate, a grandchild, a lover or a neighbour. What can we mean to someone? What does social engagement mean?

And how do we meet one another?

A performance by Marlies Tack and Michaël Vandewalle, who draw on their experience as theatre makers in the socially engaged arts to create De Hyenalaan: a new world of care and solidarity. Encounters and stories shaped by experiences of poverty, mental distress, addiction, institutions and care services form part of the foundation of the work.
