Antigone & the Contras could have been a new punk band but it is not. The Contras are our artists-in-residence, as an ode to obstructionists, bullies and outside-the-box thinkers. From September 2023, Beyza Taspinar, Axelle Verkempinck and Tim Natens will be our Contras in residence. They will have the time and space to experiment, rehearse and inspire our operation. In this way, Antigone also provides an answer to the question of supporting emerging artists more sustainably.
We offer them the opportunity to continue growing and dabbling in their work, without the immediate pressure of a grande premiere. In this, they are supported artistically, technically, production-wise and business-wise by the rest of the team. When the time is right, they open the doors of their studios for a first meeting with the public.
At the same time, they will also become part of the operation at all levels. They will show up as coaches in MAGMA or the theatre workshops (Stage fright) and unleash their imagination on the building, on the framing of performances, at festivals and in our brochures. This will allow them to contaminate our work, and we theirs.
