the contra's
Antigone & the Contras could be the name of a new punk band, but it isn’t. The Contras are our artists-in-residence — an ode to those who challenge the status quo, stir things up and think outside the box.
From March 2027 onwards, Augusto Pedraza and Frederico Araujo will be our artists-in-residence. They will have the time and space to experiment, rehearse and inspire our organisation. In this way, Antigone is also exploring more sustainable ways of supporting emerging artists.
We give them the opportunity to develop their practice and experiment with their work without the immediate pressure of a major premiere. Along the way, they receive artistic, technical, production and business support from the rest of the team. When the time is right, they open the doors of their studios for a first encounter with the public.
At the same time, they become part of the organisation at every level because they bring their imagination to our building, the way we frame performances, our festivals and our publications. In this way, they influence and enrich our work, and we theirs.
