MAGMA is a social-artistic platform in Kortrijk, in which we experiment with expression and creativity, under the guidance of professional directors. With MAGMA, we seek to reflect the diversity of the street on stage.

Sometime around this time last year, India launched a rocket towards the moon. A video shows the team's reactions when the Chandrayaan-3 hits the lunar surface. In front are eight women in sari - the traditional Indian dress - and they go wild.

This image is touching.

We rarely get to see a group of educated women, let alone in traditional attire like the sari or with hidjab. But make no mistake, they are there!

The fact that this image touches so much is due to representation. Who do we get to see and in what way? What stories are told through the inexhaustible stream of images we are shown from birth. Just think of media, in books, in films and through advertising images.

And that is precisely where MAGMA has been working around for the past year. In Once upon a time in the eyes of Hollywood, they take a closer look at Hollywood. Film and theatre meet on the scene.

The show is about how stereotypes are not as innocent as they seem. How Hollywood has decided who the “good guys” and the “bad guys” are. And about the stories we tell about each other and how they can be more destructive than guns.
