Kelly

Who the f*ck is David Kelly and why should you care?

But first: what possesses a young Belgian artist to jump into this muck of history? To embody a figure who succumbed to the weight of a war machine and give him a voice (post-mortem)? With humour and imagination to disguise the bitter seriousness?

Is it an ode to Kelly?
Is it to solve once and for all the riddle behind his mysterious death?
Is it to draw our attention once more to that piece of history that still shapes the future for many?
Or does he want to understand why people cling to US planes only to die a few metres away?

From zero to hero to... very zero.

In Kelly, young playwright and actor Tim Natens puts himself in the shoes of the maligned British weapons inspector David Kelly, who dared to question the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and died a few months later in unclear circumstances. All evidence and medical records are to be kept secret until 2073.

Nineteen years after his death, David Kelly enters the scene. He looks back on his career, the last months of his life and his decision to stop being a pawn.

Kelly is a monologue about honour and integrity, about a personal struggle in the light of world history.

Kelly premiered on 21 October 2021 and toured Belgium for the past year.
From 2023-2024, the show will also be available in English.
