Beyza Taspinar
Beyza Taspinar (°1997) was born in Sint-Joost-ten-Node and grew up in Schaarbeek. From an early age, she has been drawing and painting. After art college, she studied interior design for a year but eventually chose Free Arts at Sint-Lukas Brussels, where she graduated in 2022. She has also been a member of the Brussels theatre platform TransfoCollect for many years. As a Belgian of Turkish origin, she is fascinated by the culture and history of Turkey, by the position of women and men in the world and by Greek mythology.
Her practice is multifaceted: she seeks her forms in visual work, singing, performance and theatre. Recurring elements are small smartphone- or post-it-sized drawings, milk and olives. Beyza always works trilingually in Dutch, Turkish and English.
In 2019, she made the solo performance 13 under the wings of TransfoCollect, with the support of Divers and Jong (VGC Brussels). In 2022, she won 1030 Got Talent with a singing solo. Currently, her work focuses on the theme of witchcraft and witchcraft persecution and its traces in Belgian and Turkish culture.

I am… My brain is not… It’s just not…
This is where it all started.Money. Klein of groot, veel of weinig. PARA PARA PARA.
In het begin probeerden we iets te geven terwijl we kregen. Maar blijkbaar werkte dat dus niet. Dan hebben we geprobeerd om metaal te gebruiken. STOP, KIJK. Daar begon het dus. This is where it all started.
Close your eyes and watch the darkness. It was a night like this one.
So dark, but I went to the window, opened it, and saw nothing. Until a little spark happened to cross my darkness. I tried to see what it was but it was so fast that I couldn’t even ask a question. Although, it left something on me. Its dust… The colourful dust happened to lay on my shoulders. If you listen closely to this dust you will hear all their secrets. You just need to use the right ingredients to be able to hear them. Garlic, an ear, milk, and a candle.
